LO3: Working towards and creating the personal media profile

P4
Identify and repurpose content for use in the profile (this will need clearly signposting what material you have repurposed)

Repurposed content for my portfolio:

Sandersons Boutique department store advertisement:

  • As the advertisement for sandersons was made using Adobe Premier, the file was initially saved as a .Proj file , in order for this to be put online as part of my personal media profile, it had to be repurposed . I did this by changing the file from a lossless .proj file to a lossy H.264 file which could be uploaded in high definition using a media player such as Vimeo. H.264 files are universally accessible meaning that any prospective employers or universities would be able to look at and evaluate the work with ease. As shown below the files were repurposed from .proj to high quality MP4 files.

Magazine pages:

  • My magazine pages we made using Indesign which saves projects using .IND files , these files are large in size and only accessible to those who have access to the software it was created on . It is unlikely that every university or employer will have these kinds of industry quality softwares therefore it was important to repurpose it before uploading it to the personal media profile. I changed the front cover from a .TIF file to a JPEG which is much smaller in size therefore could be uploaded online easily . I then changed the contents and double page spreads from PDF to Jpeg so that they could to be uploaded with ease and then viewed online as part of the portfolio.

Photography:

  • The photography which I wanted to use on the personal media profile needed to be repurposed as all the editing on the images of both landscapes and artists were edited using Adobe Lightroom. When uploading images to edit , they are saved as a .lrcat which is a lossless file and can be edited as many times as necessary . These catalogs cannot be opened without the use of the software therefore they needed to be repurposed to lossy files  or jpegs before being uploaded to the digital media profile. This included the image which was used as part of the News article and the article itself in order for it to be fit for viewing as part of the portfolio.

M2:
Discuss legal and ethical requirements
for the repurposed content (you will need to discuss copyright, what material you created yourself – look at legislation such as PRS, W3c, IPSO for EACH REPURPOSED PIECE ON YOUR PROFILE)

A personal media profile is intended for personal usage to show to potential employers and university admissions my skills set across the media industry therefore all work on their should be of my own creation therefore I hold the intellectual property. In accordance to the copyrights designs and patents act , it would be unlawful of me to try and pass off another creatives work as my own therefore it is important that all the work as part of this portfolio was created by myself. Using somebody else work would also be deemed unacceptable particularly by University admissions as this is plagiarism - this could effect my ability to apply for university placements in the future and as a result of this work within the industry.

Within my work I also need to make sure that all assets which make up the projects are rights free , this isn't as much of a problem for me as all of the graphics on my magazine were created by myself and all fonts and images were either rights free or taken and edited by myself meaning I havent breached the copyrights designs and patents act and without using anybody elses intellectual property. The video which was created on behalf of Sandersons boutique department store features there logos at several points throughout, prior to filming the advertisement, we got relevant permissions from the management which allowed us to use their logo for advertisement purposes without breaking the law. The music we used for the Sandersons video was sourced from a royalties free online cache , this means that we wouldn't have to pay royalties from PRS.

W3C is the regulator for all online content and they have the ability to remove online content if it is deemed unacceptable - All of the content of my personal media profile is legitimate and without any controversial subejects which could cause offence or be unsuitable for a younger audience. IPSO regulate all content within magazines and newspapers and any written content - this is something I looked at as part of unit 3 therefore all the body copy within my magazine pages are working in conjunction with these coded of practise therefore would be suitable for posting online - Any other body copy on my website must be completely truthful and in no way in breach of libel law (writing something which is untrue or defamatory). All the images on the website would be regulated by W3C however the subjects for the images I am wanting to upload to my personal media profile stay within reasonable boundaries therefore do not show any nudity , strong language or violence/abuse.

D1:
Justify the choice of content and the
repurposed formats (you will need to literally go through each piece of work you upload to the profile/website and state clearly why you chose this and why you changed it to a different format)

I believe the materials which I have included on my personal media profile are a direct representation of my skills within the digital media sector and how I am able to adapt these skills dependent on a client brief or treatment. I have demonstrated my ability to use industry standard editing softwares such as Adobe Premier to create the advertisement for Sandersons Boutique Department store , Indesign for the magazine pages and Adobe Lightroom for editing images. Not only does my media profile show my ability to work creatively , but the fact that it is Digital shows how I am able to use online softwares to create a product which is potentially important to many employers as IT skills are a preferential skill to have in any job. As I am not yet sure on the area of media I would like to pursue a career within therefore showing my ability to work to an acceptable standard within a variety of these could be impressive for a employer or University admissions officer.

My personal media profile also shows my ability to write coherently and for an identified purpose , this is reflected in the body copy of my articles for my magazine which were made in accordance to a brief and also my article written for unit 7 regarding homelessness. A degree of basic literary skills I think would be impressive in these kind of circumstances as it shows my skills outside of media production as well as within it. I have presented my personal media profile in a way which is representative of myself using bright colourful text and images - each section shows a different skill such as Photography and videography and should I continue to complete projects within these sectors I can add to the website which is the most impressive thing about a digital media profile. Should I also decide to refine what career path I was working towards , it is also a possibility to add or remove content to create more of a focus on a particular skill within the set.

I have produced a media profile where I have included an example of all areas of media production which it think is important as it demonstrates my versatility as a prospective employee or student.
